Spring Cleaning

It's that time of year again, SPRING! This is my absolute favorite time of year. It's the time of growth, rebirth, rejuvenation. The earth is waking up out of it's cold, sluggish, wintry slumber and nature's abundance begins to creep out. Spring is also the time when the days start getting longer, the sun is warm and shining bright. When I was young, my parents had my siblings and I do lots of chores, and spring cleaning was deep and thorough. I've come to enjoy cleaning, it's very therapeutic for me. The satisfaction that arises from a bright clean space is invigorating. So why not apply the same principles of house cleaning to cleaning our internal "house"? We only have 1 body to live in, so why not clean it out, and fill it up with the good stuff. It’s been a process for me to not only understand the importance of clean eating, but to really, truly FEEL the effects of it. I’ve had a long history of depression, lethargy, sluggishness and overall feelings of total blah over the course of my life. Since I’ve started on my own personal journey towards a healthier lifestyle I can honestly say (at age 40!) that I’ve never felt better in my life. I attribute this to many, many, many factors, but one thing is for certain, I am feeding my body what it naturally wants and craves – fresh whole foods, healthy fats, rest, exercise, and lots of water. Just like a car needs gas to run, we must fuel our bodies with nutrients. Unfortunately, food has become fake, processed, and chemical-laden, which only confuses the body, resulting in crazy intense cravings, bad skin, chronic diseases, poor sleep etc. I’m not saying to cut out everything beginning today, what I am saying is begin by adding in more of the good stuff (fruits, veggies, water) and the bad stuff will naturally begin to get crowded out.
